Nigerian actor Jide Awobona, widely celebrated for his versatility on screen, has just wrapped up a 21-day shoot in the United Kingdom for his upcoming gangster-comedy film.

With nearly one million followers on Instagram, Awobona described his time filming in Suffolk and Essex as a memorable and inspiring experience. Key scenes were shot at Assington Autos scrapyard in Suffolk and along the picturesque Leigh-on-Sea coastline in Essex.

The yet-to-be-titled movie follows Awobona’s character as he journeys to Great Britain in an attempt to correct the mistakes of his late father. Though built on a serious storyline, the film promises plenty of humor through clever comedic twists.

Speaking about his first visit to some of the filming locations, Awobona shared:

“When I heard the name, I was curious about what the place would look like. It was exactly what I imagined. Seeing the sea up close for the first time was a calm and beautiful moment. The UK has a discipline and decency I really admire, and it made filming here a wonderful experience.”

Awobona, who has earned a loyal fan base through years of consistent performances, expressed confidence that his followers would support the project once it hits cinemas.

“I don’t like to blow my own trumpet, but I have worked hard to become one of the respected actors in Nigeria. My fans love my craft, and I believe they will rally behind this film too,” he said.

The production, backed by Essex-based company Hellfire, is expected to make waves both in Nollywood and internationally.

Daniel Collins, operations and communications manager at Assington Autos, said the collaboration was exciting for the region:

“It’s great news for Suffolk that Nollywood—the world’s second-largest film industry—has chosen to film here. We were delighted to welcome some of Nigeria’s top talent and crew to one of East England’s biggest vehicle recycling centers.”

With Nollywood hits like A Tribe Called Judah and Battle on Buka Street setting high standards, Awobona’s latest project has the potential to join the list of blockbusters that bridge Nigerian cinema with global audiences.
