The governments of the United Kingdom and Nigeria have launched a new UK–Nigeria Creative Industries Working Group, aimed at strengthening ties between both countries’ thriving entertainment sectors. The partnership seeks to unlock fresh opportunities for collaboration in film, television, music, fashion, and digital content.

The initiative was formally announced during a bilateral meeting focused on trade, investment, and cultural exchange. Officials from both sides highlighted the rapid growth of Nigeria’s creative economy—particularly Nollywood, which is recognized as the world’s second-largest film industry by volume.

According to industry experts, Nollywood produces thousands of films each year, generating billions in revenue and employing millions across the value chain. However, access to international distribution, financing, and advanced production infrastructure has remained a challenge. The UK’s involvement is expected to open new pathways for co-productions, skills training, and global exposure.

Speaking at the launch, representatives of the UK’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) emphasized that the partnership will build on the UK–Nigeria Enhanced Trade and Investment Partnership signed earlier this year.

“The creative industries are at the heart of cultural diplomacy. By working closely with Nigeria, we are investing not just in economic growth but in the power of storytelling and global influence,” one official stated.

On the Nigerian side, the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy expressed optimism that the working group would accelerate growth and improve Nigeria’s global positioning in entertainment.

“This collaboration is timely. With the right frameworks in place, our filmmakers, musicians, and designers will have more opportunities to compete on a global stage,” the ministry noted.
