On September 12, 2023, <a href="https://aura.ng/news/what-really-killed-mohbad-unraveling-the-autopsy-mystery">Nigeria lost one of its brightest rising stars — Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba</a>, popularly known as Mohbad. A gifted street-hop artist whose sound blended Fuji influences with contemporary Afrobeats energy, Mohbad gave a voice to the streets, moved dance floors, and earned his place as one of the most relatable figures in Nigerian music.

Two years after his passing, his music continues to live on — not just as a memory, but as anthems that fans and fellow artists still connect to deeply.

Shortly after his death, Mohbad’s final project, Blessed, shot up the charts as grieving fans turned to his music for comfort. The EP landed among the top 30 most-streamed albums in Nigeria in 2024, a clear indication that his sound resonated far beyond his lifetime.

His collaboration with Chike on “Egwu” became one of the biggest songs of 2024, peaking as the No. 2 record in Nigeria across streaming, radio, and TV. The track not only dominated the airwaves but also gave Mohbad posthumous recognition at the 17th Headies Awards, where he received five nominations. He went on to win Best Street Hop, Best Collaboration, and the Viewers’ Choice Award emotional victories that his wife, Wunmi, and son, Liam, accepted on his behalf.

Since his passing, tributes to Mohbad have poured in steadily. More than 50 tribute songs have been released, with several young street-hop acts citing him as a direct inspiration. His ability to merge raw street energy with emotional depth made him a unique voice&nbsp; one that newer artists are now striving to emulate.

Even in death, Mohbad remains a touchstone for Nigerian youth culture, representing resilience, hustle, and authenticity.

Fans continue to hope for a posthumous release from Mohbad’s catalog of unreleased music. However, distribution company ONErpm confirmed that no such project is currently planned.

Instead, Mohbad’s close friend Bella Shmurda has announced plans to honor him with a tribute project titled Sanity. Originally scheduled for release on the first anniversary of Mohbad’s passing, the project has been pushed back but is now set to drop in the coming weeks&nbsp; a symbolic reminder of the bond between the two artists and the legacy Mohbad left behind.

Although his physical presence is gone, Mohbad’s music continues to echo across playlists, radio waves, and street corners. His songs remain a source of joy, comfort, and remembrance for millions who felt his energy and connected to his artistry.

Two years later, one truth remains clear: Mohbad may have left too soon, but his voice is timeless.
